GENLED Acolyte is incredibly proud to have provided custom architectural LED lighting for the brand-new SoFi Stadium that opened last night in Inglewood, Ca.
Home to both the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, SoFi Stadium is the largest NFL stadium at 3.1 million square feet and a seating capacity of 72,000 fans. With an estimated $5 billion price tag, it’s the most expensive stadium ever built. The massive building canopy features a unique perforated metal exoskeleton designed to allow the proper amount of light, transparency and air flow across the span of the stadium.
While football is now underway at SoFi after the Rams christened the stadium by beating the Dallas Cowboys in a 20-17 season-opening nailbiter, the COVID-19 pandemic means it will likely be at least 2021 before fans can experience the venue first-hand. Eventually, this unique indoor/outdoor stadium – developed by billionaire Rams owner Stan Kroenke and visible to millions as they fly into nearby LAX every year – will play host not just to the Rams and Chargers, but to concerts, shows, conventions and major sporting events including Super Bowl LVI in 2022, the 2023 NCAA football national championship game and parts of the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.
And, through our partners at Forman & Associates and Graybar Electric Supply, GENLED Acolyte will light the way. More than 15,000 custom GENLED Acolyte fixtures were assembled by hand and tested in our New Jersey headquarters and production facility for installation at SoFi Stadium. Design firm KGM Architectural Lighting specified our high-end custom Static White RibbonLyte fixtures to illuminate exclusive spaces, provide dramatic uplighting and highlight various architectural shapes and designs throughout the stadium concourse and in the more than 250 luxury suites. All told, SoFi Stadium features some 22,700 feet of our Static White RibbonLyte in our AS1 and AS2 channel or our AS20G channel with grazer lenses.
“This project is a testament to the scope and size of the custom work we can do,” said Scott Vontobel, president of GENLED Brands. “We were thrilled to partner with Forman & Associates and Graybar on this ground-breaking facility, and I’m incredibly proud of the hard work put in by the men and women on our team. Everything about SoFi Stadium is first-class. Everything was done right – especially the lighting!”
Billed as a “multizone entertainment center,” SoFi Stadium is the centerpiece for a massive entertainment, retail, commercial and residential development at the former Hollywood Park racetrack site, including an office tower that will house the studio headquarters of NFL Media, more than 1.5 million square feet of retail and commercial space, and up to 3,000 residential units. A 6,000-seat theater is currently under construction and a 300-room hotel is planned for a later phase of development.
