Ojai Playhouse opened as the Isis Theater in 1914 and was registered as an Ojai, Calif., historic landmark in 2020. After a water main break forced a long closure, it was purchased and rehabbed for some six years before reopening in late 2024. New owner David Berger, envisioning a classic playhouse that can be used for live music and theater or cinema, installed separate state-of-the-art sound systems for each. Award-winning lighting team Ann Kale Associates conceived a modern design featuring geometric cubes illuminated by color changing RGBW Customizable BackLyte fixtures from Acolyte in the theater. The popular Piccolo micro fixture was used to light the poster displays along the facade. Ojai Playhouse opened with a celebration of the Hollywood awards season, screening several best picture contenders. We hope the action (and drama) keeps rolling for years to come!
