Brilliant Acolyte Pixel Products illuminate NJ high school theater, eSports arena

Dance teams, choirs, actors and gamers opened Plainfield High School’s renovated theater and new eSports arena with dramatic performances and riveting competition as part of tandem ribbon-cutting ceremonies in Plainfield, N.J., unveiling amazing custom LED lighting displays from Acolyte and the PureTek Group in the process.

PureTek Group – a leading creator of innovative lighting and technology installations for educational facilities – specified Acolyte’s programmable Pixel RibbonLyte fixtures in AS23 channels with square milky lenses for both projects.

Fourteen long Pixel RibbonLyte fixtures bracket the walls and ceiling and run under the balcony to create moving light displays in the 1,600-seat theater. The inspiring programmable light shows are operated with daisy-chained C4 Live controllers installed in the ceiling high above the auditorium. The C4 Live controllers use SPI technology (with more than 50 built-in protocols) to quickly transmit synchronized data over long distances.

The eSports arena contains 20 state-of-the-art gaming stations where gamers face off in matches of Rocket League, Valorant, Fortnite, Minecraft and Madden. The arena ceiling is covered with crisscrossed diagonal lighting fixtures that can be tuned to match the Plainfield Cardinals’ team colors – or the colors of their opponents. The light is static during gameplay, but victory triggers stimulating preprogrammed light shows in the winner’s colors.

“This moment represents … the realization of a vision we’ve tirelessly worked towards,” Plainfield Superintendent of Schools Rashon Hasan told the assembled crowd. When discussions about the project started, Hasan said, “Nobody thought that we would be opening the best eSports arena in New Jersey high schools.”

“We chose Acolyte’s RibbonLyte fixtures and C4 Live controls for our unRAVL systems at Plainfield High School due to their exceptional performance and flexibility,” said Dan Litvin, president of PureTek Group. “Acolyte’s unwavering commitment to this project, from pre-install verification to on-site technical support, truly set them apart. Their team’s dedication ensured a seamless integration process and outstanding results. The immersive house lighting in the performing arts center and the dynamic lighting in the eSports Arena have been met with incredible enthusiasm and are consistently the highlight for visitors. Acolyte has exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to specifying their products in future projects for dynamic and immersive lighting solutions.”

“Working with the PureTek team turned a vision into a reality for a gorgeous auditorium and the best-of-its-kind high school eSports Arena,” said Hendue Vidal, Acolyte VP Sales North America. “Their tenacity for attention to detail and coordination amongst all the trades involved truly made this a special project for us to be part of. The PureTek team were the perfect partners, and the project speaks for itself!”
